I tested for 9.3 whether RTF/diff based baseline comparisons work by running the DXL library script "Example to create layout DXL column that shows changes to Object Text"
Under 9.3 I get the following error in 9.3 (but not in 9.2 which is ok).
-R-E- DXL: <C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.3\/lib/dxl/example/histcol.dxl:321> invalid dxl value for attribute 'Delta Text' of type 'Text'
In line with this behavior, a custom-written baseline comparison tool no longer works, either.
Has anyone replicated this behavior around diff and RTF?

Re: DOORS 9.3 diff/RTF problem (with DXL library script) ? SystemAdmin - Tue Nov 16 11:43:44 EST 2010
Tested the "Example to create layout DXL column..." on my DOORS 9.3.0.0 (Windows) - it works OK, no matter if I create a Layout DXL column or a DXL attribute (as in your reference to Delta Text). Also diff examples work fine. So, cannot replicate.

Thank you Pekka, I suspected that this error must be attributable to some local condition. It would be too serious to have escaped IBM. You confirmed it.
Now I am just wondering what reason could cause this persistent faulty behavior that prevents a specific type of DXL attribute from being created. Could it be some setting ??

We believe to have found the reason for the strange behavior, as well as for a crash of DWA at startup.
It may be related to a more general bug in 9.3 which causes not only this problem. It also causes DOORS Web Access to crash on startup.
According to IBM, the DWA bug materialises when a migrated 8.x database (we have 8.3) contains data with unsupported indents (see attached file for explanation - basically these are nonstandard indents imported from WORD or elsewhere).
For DWA, the presence of unsupported indents causes memory exhaustion at startup and crash. For DOORS 9.3, it seems to cause the strange .RTF and diff behavior (not confirmed but likely).
The solution envisaged for us by IBM was to manually get rid of all unsupported indents. Instead, we will go from 8.3 to 9.2 where the .RTF/diff problem is not present. And we will not implement DWA until the bug is fixed.
Or does anyone have better advice?

Well, don´t rejoice too early,I am waiting for an answer from IBM what to do with unsupported indents in baselines....;-)

We could make a black magic script that will put a baseline into exclusive edit mode g. Regards, Mathias
